New this Summer in Snowmass

New
Air Service.
Frontier airlines announced February 14, 2008, that
it will begin new service to Aspen/Snowmass starting
May 15 with five daily departures from Aspen (from 7
a.m. to 7:15 pm with the last return flight leaving
Denver at 9:45 p.m.). Aspen/Snowmass is the first
and only ski resort destination in Colorado to be
served by Frontier, which is the first low-cost
carrier to offer service to some mountain resorts
and regional destinations. The airport will be
served by the 70-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprop,
which is quieter than other aircraft and burns 40
percent less fuel than comparable aircraft, in
addition to being more reliable for such mountain
destinations. Frontier
flies to 63 destinations, including 53 U.S. cities,
six cities in Mexico, two in Canada and one in Costa
Rica.

Event
News (2008)
• The
NEW Snowmassive Disc Golf Open (June 21-22)
promises a weekend packed with PDGA-sanctioned
on-mountain competitions.
• The
NEW Snowmass G3 (August 8-10) pits riders against the
slopes in two downhill and one super d competition
for cash prizes as part of the prestigious 2008
Mountain States Cup series. Saturday, August 9
concludes with a free new concert by a major
national act.
• The
NEW 12 Hours of Snowmass (September 14) keeps riders pedaling the golden
trails from dawn until dusk as part of a fundraiser
for local youth organizations. • Blast the
Mass (July 11-13) offers UCI Level 1 downhill
and mountain cross races, the highest ranked
courses in the nation.
•
Broadway hits the stage! Jane Gottlieb
Productions brings over 50 local children to
Snowmass to present two popular musicals on the
Fanny Hill Stage. A Chorus Line shows on July
20 and Fame: The Musical plays on August 3.

Hickory House to
serve famous ribs at Snowmass Rodeo.
One of the most
popular summer activities in the Roaring Fork Valley
just got tastier with the announcement that the
famous Hickory House will provide their
award-winning ribs and chicken in the BBQ tent at
the Snowmass Village Rodeo Grounds.
The
Snowmass Rodeo menu will offer the choice of a full
dinner of ribs and chicken, with sides of baked
beans, cole slaw and au gratin potatoes, or a
sandwich package that includes either chicken or
beef sandwich and the same sides. The full dinner is
priced at $18 and the sandwich is $9. Both include
beverages and the dinner includes chocolate chip
cookies for dessert.

New
Restaurant.
Bringing Italian specialties straight from his
grandparents (and a sauce so secret it's locked in
his safe), Peter Nardi has opened a new restaurants
in Snowmass Village in the former Margarita Grill
location. "Family style" with reasonable prices,
heaping portions, and a great new place to bring the
kids, Nardi's also will continue the popular
former restaurant's tequila and margarita bar.

Free Bus Service to Aspen.
Aspen/Snowmass announced on February 14, 2008, that
the Roaring Fork Transit Authority will run free
buses between Aspen and Snowmass this summer and
fall, and possibly next winter, making it easier
than ever to get around the Aspen/Snowmass area.

Environmental
Stewardship.
The
Snowmass Club has achieved designation as a
“Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” through
the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf
Courses, an Audubon International program. The
Snowmass Club is the 30th course in Colorado and the
665th in the world to receive the honor.

Take 5
in Snowmass Village (2008)
Multiple
festivals celebrate five year anniversaries in 2008,
including: St. Paddy’s Day (March 17), Chili Pepper
& Brew Fest (June 6-8), Massive Music (July 5 &
August 2), The Snowmass Wellness Experience (August
16-17), and Octoberfest (September 6). Drawing
crowds by the thousands, these events and Snowmass’
summers have come a long way in five short years.

New
Facilities (2008)
The award-winning and environmentally-friendly
Snowmass Recreation Center more than doubles its
state-of-the-art facilities. This 18,000-square-foot
indoor facility will include the already completed
Matrix cardio and weight room, a gymnasium with a
full-size basketball and volleyball court, a
1,000-square-foot aerobics room, a climbing wall and
a bouldering cave. Outdoors, visitors will find four
heated pools, four new tennis courts, a basketball
court, two sand volleyball courts, and a new
10,000-square-foot concrete skate park by summer’s
end.

Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center (2008)
The Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center is the new home
of Snowmass’ popular Camp Aspen/Snowmass and is like
no other children’s center in the mountains. In
addition to offering day programs such as
mountainboarding and skateboarding, this unique
25,000-square-foot, nature-themed facility also
offers childcare, afternoon and evening activities
for the whole family and new drop-in programs for
children ages three to eight in cooking, art, and

Health
& Fitness (2008)
The Snowmass Club, home to an award-winning James
Engh-designed golf course and voted seventh best ski
hotel in the 2007 annual Condé Naste Traveler
Reader’s Poll, welcomes a new 1,000-square-foot
Aspen Back & Body facility. This internationally
renowned provider of wellness services offers
customized programs in physical therapy, exercise,
stretching, and deep tissue massage.

Base
Village (2008)
The first phase of Related WestPac’s 1 billion
dollar base village development in Snowmass opened
in November 2007 with Aspen Skiing Company’s
Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center. Exciting new base
village restaurants and shops will open for the
summer 2008 season, including the Sweet Life (see
above). New accommodations in base village
include Hayden Lodge (opened January 2008), Capitol
Peak Lodge A (opening spring 2008) and Capitol Peak
Lodge B (slated to open summer 2008).

The
Arts (2008)
Anderson Ranch Arts Center now offers over 140
summer classes for adults and children. This year’s
distinguished faculty includes Enrique Martinez
Celaya, Holly Roberts, Laura McPhee, Robin Lasser
and Richard Notkin. In addition to popular summer
events such as the annual art auction, the center is
collaborating on new programs with the Aspen
Institute, Aspen Music Festival, and Aspen Film.
Look for a retrospective exhibit on Anderson Ranch
at the Aspen Art Museum opening October, 2008.

New
on-mountain dining (2007):
The Lynn Britt Cabin on Snowmass, known for its
Western vibe and locally harvested ingredients, is
now open for lunch June 28-September 1. Lunch will
be served Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from
11:45 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The
Concert Scene (2007)
Snowmass is known for its hot summer music and this
year
Snowmass'
popular Fanny Hill venue gets a complete makeover.
Music lovers will find over $400,000 in venue
improvements, including a completely new
state-of-the-art stage, roof, and sound system and
lush new outdoor hillside seating in the form of a
new carpet of emerald green sod.

New Trail: Brush
Creek Trail opens up valley-wide possibilities
(2007)
This new $2 million paved trail winds down Brush
Creek Valley and connects to the Rio Grande Trail
which runs the length of the Roaring Fork Valley
from Aspen to Carbondale. Runners and bikers can now
easily connect to Aspen, Basalt, or Carbondale, and
those worried about the return trip can catch a ride
back on public transportation buses that regularly
run to Snowmass.

New Disc Golf (2007)
This summer
Snowmass Village becomes the only mountain resort in
Colorado where you can catch a full 36 holes of disc
golf on the mountain with a brand new 18-hole course
to complement the current on-mountain course.

New Freestyle Terrain (2007)
The
on-mountain terrain continues to be improved with
three additional B.C.-style features slated to be
added to the trails this summer in additional to
regular mountain trail and terrain park
improvements. .

The Lodging (2007)
In the past 5 years, Snowmass lodges have spent over $55 million
in renovations on everything from exterior
work to new conference facilities to updated room
interiors.

The Mall (2007)
Snowmass welcomed Wienerdog Kids Toys to the
Snowmass Village Mall this year. An offshoot of
its popular Basalt, Colorado, location, this new
Snowmass store specializes in unique and specialty
toys from around the world and includes brands like
Melissa and Doug, Haba, Lego, Carrera, Bruder
Trucks, and Jam Town in addition to selling favorite
retro candy like Mary Janes.

Friendly Faces
(2007)
Snowmass, in conjunction with Aspen, has launched a
new customer service initiative. In its first year,
the plan aims to benchmark guest services in the
community, create guest services tools for local
businesses, establish an award program for
outstanding guest service, and implement a service
recovery program. Keep your eye out for How To
Aspen/Snowmass, a new booklet with
suggestions, factoids, bargains, service stories and
more helpful tidbits about the area.

New Air Service (2007)
United, Delta, and US Airways fly into the
Aspen/Snowmass airport year-round. This summer,
Delta has expanded its service to Salt Lake City
from 2 daily flights to 3. United has expanded its
service to Los Angeles from 3 days a week to a daily
flight while also continuing to offer multiple daily
flights from Denver as well. It’s easier than ever
to get to Snowmass this summer.

New Arts Scene:
Anderson
Ranch Summer Auctionettes (2007)
Fast-paced monthly afternoon auctions
over picnic lunches feature work by staff, students, faculty
and visiting artists. This popular, standing-room-only
event is an ideal chance to pick up work by renowned artists
and up-and-coming student artists. Open to the public, the
picnic lunch costs $12 and includes barbecue, salads, ice
cream. Afterwards, everyone gathers in Schermer Hall to bid
on art items.
